Filmmakers have come to Sundance with the very same hope for over 30 years. Now, as filmmakers are so technologically clever, they can engage in some web marketing plans of their own, without necessarily having to hire a social media agency.

One way that independent filmmakers likely could build up some publicity for their films heading into the Festival could be through YouTube. If a film or director most likely could generate enough interest on either platform, they most likely would have considerable buzz on their side, heading into Sundance.

One other way that a filmmaker could generate interest in their movie would be to hit the web forums for independent films. Independent films are very popular these days, with many actors and actresses seeking to generate credibility as a “real” actor by starring in low budget films. As a result, there are many forums and blogs pertaining to independent films. If an independent film’s director or star was able to be featured on such a site, that film likely could gain real steam.

The Sundance Film Festival was started as a way to showcase American films. Now, as the independent film industry has grown to include many cutting edge filmmakers, the competition to get good publicity for a film is fierce. A savvy filmmaker or producer likely could help their own cause with some judicious web marketing.
