Ways To Construct A Cloud Solution Infrastructure

February 10th, 2012

Due to the many benefits of cloud computing tools it is becoming the standard for server resources rather than just an alternative. Because computing resources can be more efficiently managed in a group it is far more cost effective than using independent servers. Due to the cost savings even government infrastructure has the imperative to become cloud based.

When companies use their own servers they have to make provision for peak usage, which might be four or five times what they use most of the time. If this system is shared between three or four companies then they will be operating at full capacity most of the time and the overall hardware needed will be much less. This basically why cloud computing saves money.

There are secondary benefits to cloud based computing. Because there are various locations that are all linked and services can be moved around as needed there is very little down time. If one location goes down the applications and storage can almost instantly and automatically be moved to another location. Although some people think that there are security risks involved in sharing servers with other users there is in reality the possibility of an even higher level of security.

The first thing that you need to do to develop a cloud computing infrastructure is to determine how the hardware will be made available and what its requirements will be. Either dedicated hardware can be purchased or it is available as IaaS or infrastructure as a service. With either option there are four options for setup.

There are four options for setting up a cloud. For private use the hardware will be owned and managed by a single entity. Various organizations can also combine to form a community cloud. In the public sphere the infrastructure will be managed by a single entity while allows access to anyone on and as needed basis and hybrid options are a combination of public and private or community.

Once it has been decided what servers and networks will be used you need to determine they technology that will be used to run the system on. There are a number of components that need to be integrated and all of these need to be compatible to the software that will create the cloud platform. The most basic requirement is that all users will consistently be able to access application and that resources are load balanced.

The operating software will manage all the processes that take place on and between servers. After that is in place you need to look at controlling the network backbone. This has to be optimized for efficiency and must be able to deal with constant change. It also has to be configured correctly for the operating application.

In order for the entire system to be managed there has to be visibility of all the processes and resources. After that has been established then all the different components have to be integrated. This is perhaps the most difficult part of all but will allow for the automation and monitoring that makes all the benefits of cloud computing possible.
