Starting a Website

February 20th, 2012

Here is my moment where will state the obvious……if you want to make money on the internet…..you need to be on the internet.

Although it may be looked at as something difficult and time consuming, building a website can actually be put together fast and with little expense.

There are a bunch of resources out there available to everyone. Some will do everything for you no matter how much experience you have.

I’ll show you how easy it is. In less than 10 minutes and $30, you can have a website up and running with content and pictures. It might sound intimidating and like a lot of work, but just getting something started can happen just like that!

In my video, I will use the services of Blue Host in order to buy the domain, start a hosting package and start designing your sites in less than 10 minutes. See below the video for some key things you will need to consider when creating your website. I can explain the meaning of each area of focus and provide you with some of my favorite resources for each.

Hosting is a service that provides you with the space in which your website resides online. All of your website content is uploaded to a server which then broadcasts it live to the internet for others to see. Shared hosting is a server that is shared by many small website owners. This type of service is designed for a newer website owner that expects a lower volume of traffic to his or her site. Dedicated hosting is the opposite. Dedicated hosting is a single server for a single person and allows much more space and speed for higher traffic.

Domain names should be chosen wisely, this is how others will know your site. Domain names cost anywhere from $10 to $20 per year and can end with .com, .org, .net, .info, and a bunch more. You can usually purchase your domain name from the company you choose to do your hosting through, but if you already own the name or buy it somewhere else, every company will allow you to transfer it over. Your domain name should be simple, direct and as short as possible so it can be remembered by others.

If you have never built a website before, you might be thinking here is where it gets tough. Actually, you will be glad to know that there are many user friendly services available that can really make this step a breeze, again something that many hosting providers offer with their service. If you want to keep costs down and do it yourself, I will be posting videos showing the steps of using some of my favorite design platforms through these companies. If this is something you’d like to outsource to a pro, the price can become costly depending on what all your site entails.
