Investing into real estate with an IRA is something that most investors don’t even know is possible. It actually is very possible to invest into real estate in your retirement account, but it must be a self directed IRA for it to work.
A Self Directed IRA is simply a savings plan that allows the average person to manage their own account and to invest their money into anything that they would like to invest their money into (with a few acceptations). This means that you can even invest into Real Estate if you want to.
Now for those of you who do not know what real estate investing is it involves buying a house or apartment building if you can afford it and then renting it out. The rent money that comes in should ideally pay for the mortgage and any other bills that you might have and over time as the house appreciates your wealth grows bigger and bigger.
It is a fantastic way of growing your money, because after all, what is safer than real estate? They are not making any more land and people are always going to need a place to sleep. The land owners have always been the wealthy and even though our world is getting more complex it is a trend that continues to this day.
So, how do you set up a self directed IRA and start investing into real estate today? Well the first thing to do is to find a list of banks and brokerages that will host it for you. Most places will host some sort of Self Directed IRA, but before you jump in without warning make sure that you do know what you are getting into.
Some plans will still limit what you can invest into and some will only let you invest into their own mutual funds. So before signing anything go over what their rules and fees are and compare it with others.
Doing some research on these plans can be a pain, but it will help you find the best possible option for you.
