Hosting Bandwidth Calculator
Sometimes figuring out how much bandwidth you’re using or how much you need for your website can be confusing. There are several types of bandwidth calculators out there. It seems the term “bandwidth calculator” can also mean several different things, so we’ll explain them here. This article will hopefully guide you in terms of finding out how much bandwidth is needed for your website hosting account.
File Transfer Time Calculator / File Size Converter
This one has a conversion calculator on it and also helps you figure out how long it will take to transfer a file with various connection speeds. What I would use this one for is audio and video files. So if I had a 4 MB video file, how long would it take someone to download it with a DSK connection? The answer is 21 seconds.
Server / Hosting Bandwidth Calculator
Now this one is pretty interesting.
So if you had 1500 visitors a day and each site visitor looked at 4 pages and each page was about 49 kb (50,000 bytes) then your website would use 8 GB per month. That’s how much hosting bandwidth you would need. You may want to make sure your host does not cut you off after you’ve gone above your allowed bandwidth or at least figure out how much you would be paying if you did go past your bandwidth allotment.
You can see after using this calculator why it’s important to get a web host with unlimited bandwidth since you may get charged up to $10 per month for every 1 GB that you use. The charges can really add up. If you’re considering a web host that offers unlimited bandwidth, check out Thinkhost. They use green power and offer unlimited bandwidth.
